Artesa Winery Branches Out into Tempranillo

CARNEROS (September 22, 2005) - Artesa Winery, whose roots are in Spain, is pleased to introduce one of Spain's classic varietals as the newest entry to their portfolio: the Artesa Alexander Valley Tempranillo 2003. Previously available only within Artesa's tasting room in Carneros, Tempranillo will be offered nationwide beginning October 1.

This bold Tempranillo is grown in Artesa's Oak Mountain vineyard in Alexander Valley. Gently hand harvested, the grapes were picked and fermented in three separate lots. A mixture of French and American oak was used during the 20 months of aging to produce a wine with plenty of blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as exuberant white pepper for a latin flair. The fruit and spice is backed with vanilla, leather and smoke. A concentration on the extracted fruit and a slight tension within youthful tannins will allow this wine to improve for years.

Dave Dobson, Artesa's winemaker said, "We had a glorious fall to ripen all the grapes, making 2003 a vintage that rewarded patience. This crop was small, revealing a very high quality."

At a suggested retail price of $24 and available this fall, the Artesa Alexander Valley Tempranillo 2003 brings forth a taste from Spain with new world winemaking.

"The enthusiastic response that has greeted this wine by visitors to our winery's tasting room made it a natural addition to our portfolio we offer around the country," added Mike Kenton, president of Artesa.

Artesa Winery, located in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, is owned by Codorníu of Spain. Artesa, which means "craftsman" in the Catalan language, celebrated its inaugural release of 8,000 cases in 1999. Since then, Artesa has capitalized on its vineyard holdings and state-of-the-art winemaking equipment to build its critically acclaimed reputation in just six years.

Artesa Wines are marketed nationally by W.J. Deutsch & Sons, Ltd., White Plains, NY.
