The grapes for this wine were grown on our Carneros estate, where high-stress, low-yielding hillside blocks were selected. The low yield and attention to viticultural detail enabled these grapes to fully ripen with natural acid balance.
Winemaking
Hand harvested at the peak of ripeness, the grapes were then de-stemmed (but not crushed) and put into either an open-top fermenter or one of our revolutionary automated tanks for gentle fermentation and extraction. About 1/3 of our lots are native yeast fermentations. Shortly after fermentation the wine was drained away from the skins and seeds and put directly into French oak barrels for maturation. Individual barrels were selected for inclusion in this blend.
Tasting Notes
Forward, bright, and juicy cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors are ever present in this wine. Complex layers of vanilla, licorice, cedar, clove, and cinnamon melt on your tongue. Perfect acidity maintains the fruit and will provide ten years of age ability.
