2004 Carneros Estate Pinot Noir

  Our Carneros Estate covers over 150 acres of rolling hillsides. We planted several Dijon clones and special field selections to give a broader spectrum of flavors from which to craft our Pinot Noir. Our cool Carneros fog-shrouded summer mornings provide the fruit intensity of this wine and our California sunshine provides the mouth-filling richness.

Hand harvested at the peak of ripeness these grapes were then de-stemmed (but not crushed) and put into either an open-top fermenter or one of our revolutionary automated tanks for gentle fermentation and extraction. About 1/3 of our lots were native yeast fermentations. Shortly after fermentation the wine was drained away from the skins and seeds and moved into French oak barrels for maturation. Individual barrels were selected for inclusion in this blend.

Tasting Notes
This Pinot is lively yet layered. The predominant raspberry fruit has intriguing hints of blueberry, smoke, cinnamon and mocha. The acid is finely balanced, allowing this wine to be both silky full and freshly fruity.
