TTwo and a half acres of our 150 acre Carneros estate
vineyards are planted to Pinot Blanc. The vines were planted on an eastern facing
hillside in 1997. The vines are cane pruned on a VSP (Vertical Shoot Position) trellis.
In 2002 the yield was 1.54 ton per acre. 2002 is the first production from this vineyard.
Winemaking
These grapes were hand harvested and press whole cluster. Both alcoholic and malolactic
fermentation took place in barrels. The wine was aged sur-lie and frequently the lees
were stirred. The wine aged on the lees for 14 months before racking and bottling.
Tasting Notes
Tropical fruit and melon begin the showy aromas of our first Pinot Blanc. Ripe fruit and
sweet hazelnut precede the rich entry. More melon, honeysuckle, and apple carry the flavors
of this elegantly put together wine. The finish is long and smooth.
262 cases produced; Alcohol content, 14.8% by volume
